Memorial Day (Part II)
A very large crowd turned out today for the unveiling of the Blue Star Memorial on South Padre Island, TX.
The weather could not have been better for the ceremonies which brought the sacrifices many men made for our freedom to light.
All kinds of men in uniform were in attendance today at the Memorial Day Service at Municipal Hall on South Padre Island, TX.
Some uniforms exude authority.
Uniforms of all kinds could be seen.
This ceremony honored the men and women who risked their lives defending the freedoms their countrymen enjoy. This is a WWII veteran accepting his pin.
This photo of a WWII veteran is absolutely my favorite photo of the day.
One by one the veterans received their pins and then stood in front of the crowd.
This is a close-up of my husband, Capt. Terry Hansen’s pin for his invaluable service to his country in time of war. He served three tours in Vietnam.
The media was there (Channel 5) covering the event.
They focused on Capt. Terry Hansen, Staff Sgt., US Army,
the mayor, Staff Sgt. Bob Pinkerton, US Marines,
and others in attendance of this solemn occasion.
Sgt. Clifford Rowell, US Army, had the honor of laying the wreath.
Greater love than this no one has, than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. – John 15:13
The water flowing down the waterfall behind the beautiful Blue Star Memorial could be heard during the moment of silence held for the fallen soldiers.
It was fitting to see people paying their due respects to the fallen.
Alderwoman Alita Bagley takes a moment to pay her respects.
The memorial is simply magnificent.
There were refreshments for those who attended.
Perfectly patriotic accessories were part of the decor.
